Dumb Politicians and Gas Prices

From Paul Krugman:
What passes for policy discussion in the world’s greatest nation:
House Republicans issued the boldest claim yet in their three-day energy protest, insinuating on Tuesday morning that their demonstration [speeches to an empty chamber demanding more offshore drilling] may in fact have already begun to lower gas prices.

“The market is responding to the fact that we are here talking,” said Republican Rep. John Shadegg.
In other news, Republicans credited their speeches for the fact that the sun rose today.

  1. Just think what gas prices would be if they were to try human sacrifice!

  2. Hey, this is the best damned news I have heard today. So two days of talking, and the House Republicans get gas prices to drop a nickel. Two days more, another nickel. So it is about 15 cents a week.
Keep talking, because ten weeks means $1.50 to me and my pocketbook, and 20 weeks means $3.00. Hell, keep talking until next year and Exxon is going to be paying Me to get their gas, rather than the other way around. See the power of talk, and sometime mid-2009 the economy will turn around as all that money we've been sending to the Middle East begins to flow back into the United States. So keep talking, guys. And I want you to know that while I can't hear a single word you say, I appreciate every bloviating one of them for the first time in my life.
