  2. No one can be predominantly responsible for this calamity. Greenspan was one participant but there were many others which the media has pointed out. The good thing after a 47% drop in the S+P 500 index, we may have been able to regain a reasonable level of expectations. Right now the PE ratio is around 12. The last time it was at this level was back around 1982. Average annual gains for the last 15 years is around 8% (includes reinvested dividends), now compare that to the 200 year historic average of around 11%. I wonder if we will return to the days of the 1950's-1970's where value stocks dominated and returned about 7% due to at least 5% dividend yields.

I do not doubt for a second this could be the case. It could be the biggest head fake of all time. What I am trying to suggest (and have no success at doing) is this "Could" be the biggest bust of all time.

Incidentally, you will note I said I have a huge house and drive an SUV. You are the one assuming it is a sterile McMansion in the exurbs.

If you must know, my place is a 1880s brownstone (Italianate in design) in the heart of DC. Thanks to my plumb location, my SUV miles logged are less than 4,000 a year. Yet another reason why my carbon footprint is far less than yours and your progeny!!!

Mine is a little later in the Victorian era; 1895.

    What ANC are you in?

  5. Um, the 'oil guru' is gay, hence the lack of interest in (disdain for?) human reproduction.

  6. Anon - Ill say its one of the four in Ward 1 but I'd prefer not to get more specific.

Non anon - gay or not, does that have anything to do with my carbon footprint being less than that of Anon & his progeny?
