McMansion Watch: Model Home McMansion

I've seen this McMansion on the national TV news at least once. Since it's in the DC area (where a lot of the national press is located) and easily visible from a very busy road, it's an ideal candidate for news stories about housing. Notice the luxurious vinyl siding. You can't tell from the photo, but it's got a great view of traffic! This is a great house for someone who wants other people to see where they live, because lots of cars drive by every day and it really stands out from the road.

Like Monday's under-construction McMansion, this house is located on Pohick Crest Drive in Fairfax Station, Virginia. It is a model home for the builder, Calvert Luxury Homes.

  1. I guess I don't understand the appeal of these stupid things. Which goes to prove that most people are lemmings.

  2. Notice too how the walkway (if there is one) leads from the garage to the front door. There is no chance it would actually connect to the sidewalk - as if people would actually WALK to this location!

  3. Sorry - that should be from the driveway to the front door.

  4. Calvert Luxury homes has a similar project near the intersection of Rte. 50 and George Mason in Arlington. The entrance to the project of $1.2 million homes, similar to the one you picture in Pohick, is on the entrance ramp to Rte. 50, so you might have a little trouble getting out in the morning rush hour. But the evening rush hour should be clear, as long as you are careful about those drivers getting up to speed so they can merge onto Rte. 50. They are also on very tiny lots, and crammed close to one another.

  5. You can either afford to live in an all brick home, or you can not. The vinyl siding and brick front is hideous.

  6. It could be the nicest house in the world but I still wouldn't want to live there.

Why would anyone choose to live so close to such a major road?

I enjoy peace and quiet now and then..
