Using Google Maps Street View to Visualize a Block or a Neighborhood

Google Maps Street View is a solid tool for quickly acquiring a visual perspective of a block or a neighborhood. Street View is a great service.

  1. i actually use it for exactly this purpose all the time. One thing i cue on is what type of cars are parked in the neighborhood and how well they appear to be maintained. Its often easier to see details of the cars vs the houses father back from the road. If its an urban area like where i'm looking, i also check what kind of stores are there. If its all run down bodegas and barber shops, that's a no.

  2. Cars are important but also cyclical by the time of day. At night, some of the nice hoods in DC have some pretty sweet cars there. Yet, by day as the nannies, contractors, etc. move in, the cars look alot more crummy.

I bet it will be another reason for google to get sued too.

Not exactly for the same reason but, People in Japan have already sued google and google is taking pictures all over again from scratch.

  8. Yes, indeed it is an very important tool that can be used for many daily purpose but very few of us are aware of it’s noncommercial use. I think this tool needs more publicity centered at common user.

  9. But..That ISN'T College Park. Rather it's the part of Takoma park that managed to seceede from PG county and join Montgomery coundy, bringing up property values ~20k in one fell swoop.
